Elk River Area School District

K - 12 Media Program

Each of the schools in our district has a Library Media Center. The staff works to ensure that awarm and welcoming environment greets all who enter. The centers have books, audio-visual items, equipment and electronic materials available for students and teachers to use to enhance the learning experience and make it more meaningful. The rigorous competition of today's world makes an excellent education essential for our students. Research has shown that an effective library media program is one of the most important resources needed by students to help them improve their learning and raise their test scores.

Reading is perhaps one of the most important skills needed for learning. Books and other materials are available for those who pursue both research and leisure reading. Many of our schools promote reading through programs such as author visits, "I Love to Read Month" activities, and book discussion clubs.

Reliable research resources are available for our learners both in school and outside of school through our district online databases. They can be accessed "24/7" through each school's library media webpage. Students receive login names and passwords for the databases from their media center staff. We highly recommend and encourage the use of these databases.

The mission of the Media program is to enable students and staff to become lifelong effective users of ideas and information.
This Mission is accomplished by:

providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
designing instruction to foster learning and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas
collaborating with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
